Megavina's Investigators have visited Merricks Creek vineyard, they ordered a selection of share plates, they checked the cleanliness and how the staff interacted with clients. Our investigators work anonymously, the best way to get real and objective reviews because the staff and the managers don't know that we are investigating.

Good wine, quiet, enjoyable experience

- by - Vineyard visited February 28, 2016

Merricks Creek Cellar Door offers the perfect lunchtime spot in a quiet and beautiful area surrounded by vineyards. Located at around 1 hour by car from Melbourne CBD, this picturesque vineyard is specialized in Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines.

The affordability of Merricks Creek is also worth noting. The wines range from $10-$15 a glass, and the generous sharing plates range from $11 for lighter options to $15 for more heartier fare. 2-4 share platters would easily feed two people without breaking the bank :)

As a starter, we selected roasted tomatoes, goat curd from Main Ridge Dairy cheesery (the goat curd is like a very soft cream cheese, with a delicate texture and a tangy, complex flavour, goat’s curds are ideal for adding creaminess to summer dishes), it was served with grilled ciabatta. To continue, crispy thins with parmesan cheese, prosciutto ham and rocket salad (We really love it! very yummy!). 20 month aged Italian proscuitto di Parma, Shaw River buffalo mozzarella, tomatoes and basil with ciabatta (a fresh platter, tasty tomatoes, very good ham). One of our favourite dish was the rare eye fillet topped with caper vinaigrette. As a dessert a white chocolate mousse served in copper mini pots with fresh passion fruit (a succulent fusion).

You may be lucky to be served by the enthusiastic and friendly Sam, a red haired young boy who is the son of the family that owns Merricks Creeks Wines. He is working with his sister Georgia, his father Peter and his mother Georgina (She is the chef cooking with passion and love!).

Merricks Creek seems to be the perfect stop off for a light afternoon lunch accompanied by some great wines, quality and savory dishes in a tranquil atmosphere. The light-filled, airy dining area has both a large open verandah perfect for Summer days, and a large wooden fire that would be beautiful to sit by in the colder months. Seating only about more or less 30 people.

    Melbourne,

The perfect place to relax at just an hour from CBD, Sam and his family are very welcoming, the food is great, the wine delicious. The Cellar door is modern.
